La Jolla’s dining scene is getting a fresh rooftop addition. Hotel La Jolla, perched above La Jolla Shores Drive, has announced that its 11th-floor restaurant and lounge will relaunch as Aries on November 11, taking over the space long known as Sea & Sky.
The new concept comes from restaurateur Alessandro Minutella alongside co-managing partner Giancarlo Guttilla, who are building a menu that blends coastal California cuisine with European seaside influences and Pan-Pacific flavors. The space seats roughly 140 guests with sweeping views of the Pacific, plus a private room that can host up to 80 for events, making it a strong option for both casual dinners and larger celebrations.
Aries plans to serve lunch, dinner, and a weekend brunch, positioning it as an all-day destination rather than just an evening lounge. For a city built around its coastline, a rooftop restaurant that leans into ocean views and a European-meets-Pacific menu fills a niche that La Jolla Shores visitors and locals have been asking for since Sea & Sky’s run came to a close.
