North County fashion shoppers are getting a reason to stay closer to home. Aritzia, the Vancouver-based retailer known for its elevated, minimalist womenswear, is set to open a new boutique at The Forum Carlsbad, according to the shopping center’s own list of upcoming tenants.
The new store will sit at 1923 Calle Barcelona in Carlsbad, inside the open-air retail center that already anchors a mix of apparel, dining, and lifestyle brands along the coast. Aritzia hasn’t announced an opening date or the size of the new location, and the company did not respond to requests for comment on the timeline, but the addition fits a broader pattern: Aritzia has been expanding its footprint across North America, including a planned flagship near Columbus Circle in New York and a multimillion-dollar expansion of its Houston Galleria store.
For San Diego shoppers, Aritzia is not a new name. The brand, founded in 1984, already operates stores at Fashion Valley and Westfield UTC, both of which draw customers from across the county for the label’s in-house brands built around clean lines and quality fabrics. A Forum Carlsbad location would be the chain’s first real foothold in North County, cutting the drive for shoppers in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, Vista, and San Marcos who currently have to head south to Mission Valley or La Jolla for the brand.
The move also says something about how retailers are reading North County’s market right now. The Forum Carlsbad has leaned into attracting brands that want an open-air, walkable setting rather than an enclosed mall, and landing a buzzy, younger-skewing label like Aritzia suggests the center is positioning itself as a serious shopping destination rather than just a stop for errands. For the small businesses that share that corridor, more consistent foot traffic from a destination retailer can mean more exposure, more overflow business, and more reasons for shoppers to make a day of it in Carlsbad rather than a quick in-and-out trip.
There’s no confirmed opening date yet, so North County residents eager to shop the new location will want to keep an eye on The Forum Carlsbad’s own announcements as the buildout progresses.
