Coast Coffee Co. Plots Its Return to Carlsbad

North County coffee lovers have reason to perk up: Coast Coffee Co. is plotting its return to Carlsbad, just months after closing its original mall-area location. Permits filed with the city point to a new spot at 2525 El Camino Real, Suite 131B — inside the shopping center near JCPenney and the kids’ play area — and the brand itself is teasing a comeback on social media.

Coast Coffee Co. built a loyal following in North County on the strength of its beachy, coastal-cafe aesthetic and its commitment to premium, fair-trade Arabica beans. The shop’s original Carlsbad location closed earlier in 2026, with the team posting at the time that they’d be back “sometime, somewhere new in the near future.” That promise appears to be taking shape now: in early October, Coast Coffee Co. posted on Instagram that “it is almost time for our great comeback,” signaling the Carlsbad return is close, even though an exact opening date hasn’t been set.

For now, the brand’s only open location remains at North County Mall in Escondido, at 272 Via Rancho Parkway, Suite 9000 — so Carlsbad regulars have a short drive north if they need a fix in the meantime. Once the new Carlsbad shop opens, the city will have two Coast Coffee Co. locations serving North County again, giving commuters and shoppers along El Camino Real another local alternative to the big chains.

Stories like this are a reminder of how much churn happens in San Diego’s small business and retail scene week to week — shops close, regroup, and reopen in new spaces, often with little more than an Instagram post to mark the moment. For North County business owners, it’s also a useful data point: a well-loved local brand with a real following can close a location and still come back stronger once the right spot opens up, rather than disappearing from the market entirely.

Keep an eye on Coast Coffee Co.’s social channels for the official opening date, and if you’re in the Carlsbad or Escondido area, it’s worth stopping by once the doors reopen to support a homegrown coffee shop rather than another national chain.
