Temaki Bar Reopens in Encinitas After September Fire

Temaki Bar Reopens in Encinitas After September Fire

Temaki Bar, the popular handroll and sushi counter on South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas, reopened its doors today after a fire forced it to close in early September. The 45-seat spot, known for hand rolls and nigiri made to order, had been a fixture of the Encinitas dining scene before the blaze temporarily shut it down for roughly six weeks of repairs.

Rather than just quietly flipping the lights back on, the team behind Temaki Bar is using the reopening to say thank you to the people who helped them through it. The restaurant has added a new $10 hand roll called The Phoenix to the menu as a nod to the Encinitas Fire & Marine Safety Department’s quick response to the fire. From today through Saturday, October 31, every dollar from Phoenix sales will go directly to the Encinitas Firefighters’ Association, Local 3787.

It’s a small gesture, but one that fits the neighborhood: Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas runs on a mix of longtime local businesses and loyal regulars, and a closure like this ripples beyond just one storefront. Staff lose hours, nearby shops lose foot traffic, and regulars lose a routine. A reopening that gives back to first responders, rather than just reopening and moving on, is the kind of detail that tends to earn extra goodwill from the community.

Temaki Bar is also bringing back its full slate of regular programming alongside the new roll. Happy hour returns Monday through Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m., the Quickie Lunch deal (three hand rolls for $19) runs daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Martini Thursdays are back on the calendar. A new monthly Bingo Night kicks off November 2 and will run the first Monday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

For other North County business owners, it’s a useful reminder that how you handle a setback can matter as much as the setback itself. A fire, a flood, a supply issue, or any other unplanned closure is stressful, but a clear reopening plan paired with a genuine community gesture can turn a rough stretch into a reason for customers to come back even more enthusiastic than before.
